Tutorial week 3

Task: Find an explanation of the following terms: VLS/WS, LS, MLS, MCU, CU, BCU, ECU. Make sure your references and provide a bibliography to show you are starting to develop online research skills.
VLS/WS - very long shot/wide shot:

Shows for example a person in their surroundings. Can be used to show time. When does the story take place? Is it winter? Morning? Is it a long time ago... Can also be used to show where the story takes place.

LS - Long shot

Shows the entire object or the whole person. Also called the establishing shot. The long shot shows the location the action takes place.

MLS -medium long shot

Shows a person from the knees to right above the head.

MS - Mid shot

Shows the subject preforming an action. What is the character doing?

MCU - medium close up

Shows a person from below their troth to the above the head.

CU - close up

Shows details of the character. Who is he/she? Can also be used to show time.

BCU - big close up

Why is the character doing what he is doing? Shows feelings and reactions.

ECU - extreme close up

Shows extreme details. You have to have good reason to use this shoot. Its to close to show emotions and reactions. Could be used in dramatic scenes.
